What is Ayurveda? Ayurveda is considered by many scholars to be the oldest healing science. Ayurveda means “The Science of Life.” Ayurvedic knowledge originated in India more than 5,000 years ago. It's origins are from the Vedic traditions and its knowledge was traditionally passed down through generational families or via masters to their disciples.
According to Ayurveda, there are three basic types of energy present in everyone and every matter . These are called doshas and in Sanskrit, are Vata, Pitta and Kapha.
Vata is the subtle energy of movement. Pitta is the energy of digestion or metabolism. Kapha is the energy that forms the body's structure.
Everyone has these qualities but one is usually dominant and another secondary.
According to Ayurveda, the cause of disease is due to an excess or deficiency of these doshas and as well as by toxins.
